AVGN Game Overhaul and Name Change

I’ve decided to shift priority to the AVGN fan game. It’s too far along to restart in ActionScript3 (or another game engine) without losing too much work. So I need to get it finished before Adobe pulls the plug on Flashplayer in 2020.

The Graphics

Though I originally started this project thinking I could nick assets from old games to save time, I’ve come to realise it doesn’t really look like an NES game when you ignore all palette restrictions and other such limitations. And so I’m changing things to resemble actual NES restrictions, but not to entirely emulate them. There won’t be any sprite flicker for instance. I want it to look a bit more authentic than, say, Shovel Knight.

Lambtaco Run Devblag #2

Lambtaco Run Devblag #2

Although initially discouraged after showing off my mascot based endless runner game, I recently started fiddling with it again. The feedback wasn’t negative per se; it just wasn’t useful in any obvious way. A lot of people were misunderstanding the genre of the game, but that makes sense considering how blind I wanted my feedback, and where most of it was coming from. Anyway, let’s talk about how that feedback has affected the game itself.

One Million Viewers

Looks like I missed the milestone of one million visits here at Lambta.co. Sitting at about 1 008 000 at the time of this writing. That is sessions and not unique viewers. I went with sessions because unique visitors is impossible to track accurately, and pageloads is a little less informative because of the wild variance in views per visitor.

Anyway, let’s all celebrate one of many possible metrics reaching an arbitrary milestone.

AKR3 Idea Blog #4: Multiple Endings

Last time on AKR3 Idea Blog we covered the Lakitu Shop. This week we’re doing a scrapped idea for multiple endings.

The idea is pretty simple. Based on some undisclosed factors the ending cutscene or possibly even the final boss would be different. Because the game will have multiple worlds you can play in any order like Super Mario Land 2, I was thinking the factor would be which world you completed last. That is, second to last, before the final world/level unlocked by beating all the others.

This is related to a story I’m no longer going to use. The scrapped story involved the Koopalings being mind controlled by an unknown entity, while Bowser is mysteriously missing once again. So the different endings would reveal who was responsible for that. Possibilities included Mario, Luigi, Sanic, and even Bowser himself.

And that would be kind of cool. But also potentially confusing. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Confusion can be part of the fun. But there are other reasons why I won’t be using it.

  1. It would be very difficult to make all the endings equal. With seven or so endings, some are sure to be duds.
  2. It’s a lot more work. Simply said.
  3. I want to do a different story. One that’s less derivative.

I won’t reveal too much about the new story, but I really like this angle. I call it:

A Koopa’s Revenge 3: Mutiny

And that’s all for now. Maybe check out the AKR3:FAQ I started.

5k Subs for Lambtaco Comedy and I’m not Dead Nov ’17

Recently our other youtube channel, Lambtaco Comedy, reached the landmark 5000 subscriber point. A goal I was long awaiting, but ended up missing. Thanks to everyone who subscribed. Sorry there is no milestone video. But I plan to get back at it and upload some videos soon.

The reason for my recent absence can be summed up with two words: Nintendo Switch

I’ve been in a bit of a game coma the past two weeks, but now that I’ve beaten Mario ad Zelda, I should be able to get back to business. I’ll catch up on answering comments/emails over the next few days, and I’ll be more active on Discord. And if you want to know my thoughts on those games, the Lambtaco Discord server is the place to ask.

The next comedy video should be the Emoji Movie parody. I meant for it to come out around the same time the actual movie came out on video, but the movie surprised me and came out around Hallowe’en instead of Christmas. Probably should have looked that up at some point. Anyway, it’s half done so I should have it done pretty quickly.

Thanks for your patience, everybody.

A Koopa’s Revenge 3 FAQ (Future Game) AKR3

ATTENTION: This post is outdated, please see A Koopa’s Revenge Official FAQ

A Koopa’s Revenge 3 isn’t out yet. It’s still in preproduction.

With that out of the way, I’ve decided to start up a little FAQ section on the game’s aspects and contents to far. This ca be used to catch anyone up on what’s been revealed so they can join in on the discussion, and also for anyone who’s just curious. I will abbreviate the games title to AKR3 frequently to avoid repetition.

For the record last updated: March 5, 2018.

Surprise Stream: A Koopa’s Revenge 1

Decided to do a surprise stream of AKR1. I haven’t played in ages, so it should be interesting.

It was interesting. But viewership kinda tanked when I started playing the Super Secret Level.

Welcome to the third installment in the A Koopa’s Revenge 3 Idea Blog. The series where I describe ideas I have that could potentially be a part of the upcoming A Koopa’s Revenge 3.
