Well, it happened again. I didn’t update the site for almost a year. Mostly because the old site was a pain to deal with. (See this post for details.) So here’s what I failed to post about since September first of last year. Mostly in chronological order, but there’s a lot of overlap here.
Learning Godot
In September of 2020 I finally started learning to use the Godot game engine. I fiddled around and started making a practice game starring Mr. Game and Watch. More on that on my Twitter, to left on desktop and above on mobile.
I’m hoping to get back into Godot once I’m done with AKR2 v2.9. I’d like to finish this little game in particular. Might be cool to have an actual game made in Godot, even if it’s just a demo.
I also started an itch.io page. But I’ve yet to do anything with it. Maybe this little game will be one of the first things I post on it.
A Koopa’s Revenge 2 Version 2.9
I made a breakthrough to get akr2 working in ruffle so my main focus since then has been getting a playable version of akr2 up and running. It was pretty messed up at first, since the game relied on a lot of feature ruffle doesn’t support, but between fixing that and tidying up the changes I already stared, I got 2.9 done. why 2.9 and not 3.0. basically, it’s not done. But getting the game playable in browsers again is worth releasing what would be 3.0 unfinished. Detailed explanation in this other post.
I got a ton of stuff done in this avenue. I don’t have the patience to list it all, but you can check my Twitter feed or my Discord to see all the little changes I’ve made.
Also, v2.9 is out now, so you can just play it.
General Progress on A Koopa’s Revenge Gold
I didn’t get far with AKR Gold because I switched gears to fully work on AKR2 v2.9. Getting v2.9 out and playable in browser was my top priority game-wise.
But I have gotten some work done on A Koopa’s Revenge Gold. Mostly getting a few more levels playable and making art for the game. Still no new demo. I don’t really want to put out endless demos while the game is in Alpha, so I’ll be waiting until I have something I need specific feedback on to release another demo.
YouTube #shorts
I tried my hand at those YouTube Shorts. You know, they ones they made so Tik Tok wouldn’t take over the short video format after YT pressured everyone into making longer and longer content by prioritising watch time in their algorithm. Those things.
In the end these saw much less success than regular uploads. Though I may continue to do them, as the gaming channel ones require very little effort, and the comedy ones can just be square version of shorter sketches I plan to make anyway.
Super Secret Level for Everyone!
I finally got around to making a version of AKR1 that includes the Super Secret Level, but isn’t domain locked to lambta.co. It’s available here. The SSL was basically unavailable in any form for a few months after Flashplayer support ended. I apologise for it taking so long.
Musk Cartoon on YouTube
The Elon Musk cartoon I made for last years Musk Jam finally saw it’s YouTube debut. I wanted to make a ton of improvements to it, but in the end I realised I didn’t like the thing enough to make all the enhancements, so I just redrew Musk’s face to better resemble him irl and let it go. The other option was procrastinating forever.
Blue Television Games AKR2 Playthrough
Popular YouTuber and streamer Blue Television Games did a short series of videos on AKR2. It kind of speaks for itself, so I’ll just embed the playlist.
This was a boon for AKR2’s popularity, along with the rebirth of Flash games.
Deletion of the Lambtaco Facebook Page
That’s about all there is to it. I finally got around to deleting our Facebook page. I never used it, and am trying to get off Facebook in general. Plus, one fewer thing to worry about keeping up to date. If you want updates on what I’m doing, there’s always my Twitter.
Lambtaco Games Reawakens on YouTube
After toying around with YouTube #shorts I finally went in on making real videos for Lambtaco Games again. Above is my first big effort, but there have been more uploads since. Things are really taking off, and I plan to do a big Q&A video when I reach 30 000 subscribers, which should be in less than a month.
Again, these videos tend to speak for themselves. Often literally, so there’s not much to write up here.
End
There are a few other small things I didn’t bother to include here, but you can check my Twitter feed if you’re so inclined. I post a lot of small updates of my progress on things there too. Things which don’t really warrant entire blog posts.
That’s it. We’re all caught up. I’m going to do my best to blog more frequently in the future. And with the new, more blog focused lambta.co that should be easy enough. The posts should be in a more reader-friendly shorter format too. You know, aside from this one.
