This is a Metroid style game I was working on a few years ago. I’ve been looking into Axiom Verge lately, and it got me interested in this game again. I’ll probably have a playable version soon.
I stopped working on this build because it was too clunky, and I made a few other poor decisions in the design. It was quite simply a lack of planning. But I had some cool ideas for it, even if it was a little too close to Metroid. I do plan to make this game some day, just not any time soon.
I just tossed some suitable music from my favourites on NG into the video. I imagine when I finally make the game for real it will have an original and more cohesive soundtrack.
I’ll have a longer an more detailed write up with the playable demo.
I’ve had a few requests for powerups videos for the other playable characters, so here’s Goomba’s powerup video. I didn’t include the secret permanent powerups, or the starman, because they don’t really have the same aesthetic changes as the standard powerups. See them in Koopa’s video.
I’ve been on vacation for a week, and I’ll be out for a week more. So if anyone was wondering why I’ve been slow to respond to comments and reviews, that’s why. I try to answer them every day or two, but it’s not really doable at the moment. Thanks for your patience.
Minions Must Die is currently gracing the front page of Newgrounds. This means a bunch more exposure. As a non famous animator, my stuff always does better on NG than the youtubes. Front Page really hammers that point home. Though the cartoon is doing okay on Youtube as well. Mostly due to it being embedded on this site.
To make the site more friendly to new users, I’ve added a couple of banners across the top of content posts detailing whether they’re old, and therefor not up to our current quality standards, or contain mature content, NSFW stuff, like the really bad stuff, not just a few swears or a little violence, it’s the internet, that stuff’s fine.
Scribble Koopa is an A Koopa’s Revenge series spinoff title I developed in tandem with A Koopa’s Revenge 2 during the early days of AKR2’s development. It was my answer to Paper Mario and featured similar gameplay. The art was mouse drawn in a scribbled almost child-like lazy style.
I eventually canceled it to devote more time to AKR2 and other projects. I had set out to make my own Paper Mario like game, but once I had a basic engine, I didn’t have much more reason to keep going. I’m just not that into RPGs. Like the Alpha version of AKR2 it wasn’t far along enough to have it’s own music, so I used a few songs from AKR1’s soundtrack this time around. This is also the entirety of the game.
