AKR2 Breakthrough, Versions 1.12 and 1.2 to Come

I finally got AKR2 to export properly on my new computer! Previously I had to do all work for the game on my old desktop setup from 2007, as the game wouldn’t export with the music on my new expensive 2014 laptop. This is a big breakthrough, and I’ll be able to work on the game without it being a huge hassle now.

Problems Exporting:

Previously, when I tried to export A Koopa’s Revenge 2 using my laptop, it would take several minutes of the progress bar being 95% full, then it would crash. I have to use Flash 8 to export because Flash CC doesn’t support Actionscript 2. After literal hours of googling, I was able to solve my problem.

The first breakthrough was that allowing Flash to compress the audio files was causing my problems. So I used Audition to precompress all my music files from the game to the size they will be in the finished version. But then Flash 8 wouldn’t import them. I tried messing around with the audio export settings but nothing worked. When I realised it wouldn’t import the uncompressed files, I went back to frustrated googling.

As it turns out installing the latest Quicktime allowed the files to import properly. I really have to question everything’s reliance on Quicktime. It doesn’t make a lot of sense from a user’s perspective. But it worked the files imported correctly.

The moment of truth came, and the swf file exported correctly. And in less time than ever before. So now I can work on AKR2 again! And leave my old computer in the closet where it belongs.

A Koopa’s Revenge 2 v1.12

A few bugs have been pointed out to me since the mostly bug free 1.11 release. Most are pretty minor and only crop up in particular circumstances. But one really needs to be fixed for presentation purposes, so I may as well fix up the rest. That one glitch is the main menu idle cutscenes kept looping the same animation, instead of cycling through starting on a random scene. Previously it played them completely at random.

So if there are any bugs to report that you’d like to see fixed, let me hear about them. I’m going to release a bug fix release then move on to the more fun stuff.

A Koopa’s Revenge 2 v1.2

Version 1.2 will be a more fun release. I plan on adding some new features, such as a more dynamic camera. And I’l be doing some graphical updates. Mostly stuff I didn’t feel like I had the time to work on in the middle of development.

I won’t be adding any levels or anything substantial content wise. Think of this more as a polish release. New animations and such.

This isn’t a huge priority, but it will be coming out eventually. Probably this year. But it will need extensive testing to make sure I didn’t break the game, so when the time comes I’ll be requesting testers.
